Arunima Pal bagged her sixth title in the Ludhiana District Badminton Championship. The final day of the tournament saw Pal emerging as the winner of the U-19 singles championship for girls. The class XI student of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School defeated opponent Surinder Kaur.
The tournament was organised at Shastri Hall near Guru Nanak Stadium. Arunima also emerged triumphant in the U-19 doubles category. She partnered up with Surinder Kaur for the doubles. The duo got the better of Prabhleen Kaur and Siya Trehan. Earlier, Pal won the U-17 girls singles, mixed doubles, senior mixed section and women’s doubles. Arunima faced Tarishi Singla in the U-17 girls’ single.
Wazir Singh won the U-11 title for boys, while Amelia Bhakoo won the same title for girls. In the U-11 groups for boys’ doubles, Satvik Bhatia and Aarush won the title. They defeated Swastik Saddi and Harsh Dhillon to bag the title.
The U-13 boys singles was won by Madhav after beating Aditya Sharma. The boys’ doubles title was won by Arnav Negi and Aditya Sharma. The opponent duo consisted of Stavan Jain and Raghav Bhatia. The girls’ single was won by Gurleen Kaur. The girls’ doubles were won by Upneet Kaur and Amelia Bakoo.
The U-15 category saw Vaasvi Singal bagging the title for the girls. On the other hand, Jasraj Singh successfully annexed the title in the boys’ section. Jasraj Singh also clinched the title in the boys’ double section with Jasmeh Singh. In the U-15 mixed doubles, Anupama and Rayan Kapoor beat Nirman Jain and Prabhnoor Kaur. The scores were 21-19 and 21-12.
Arnav Jain defeated Krish Chadha in the U-19 boys singles. The U-19 boys double saw Lakshay Sharma and Arnam Jain playing against Tanmay Tomar and Akshat Maithani. Lakshay Sharma and Anam Jain won the title by 21-15, 21-10. In the U-19 mixed double, Akshat Maithani and Saanvi Nautiyal teamed up to face Milan Malhotra and Anshita Bhatia. The former duo won the title by 21-17, 21-19.
Krish Chadha came into the limelight on the fourth day of the tournament. He bagged three titles that day, including boys singles, doubles and mixed doubles in the U-17 category. Arunima Pal also won three titles on the fourth day of the tournament.
The president of the District Badminton Association, Mr Mohinder Singh Grewal, distributed the prizes to all the winners. The general secretary of the association, Mr Anupam Kumaria, was also present to grace the tournament. Several other office-holders of the association were also present at the prize distribution ceremony. The proud parents of the players were present to show their support for their kids.
Arunima Pal’s heroics in the tournament has been making headlines. The young prodigy can make it big one day by playing at the national and international levels.
