Covid-19 has greatly affected many activities, including sports. For this reason, many players have tested positive and won’t be playing any more for their teams. The worst part is that some have lost big contracts. Among the players is Ollie Robinson. Ollie has displayed outstanding contributions at Sussex. He further expanded his performance as a new-ball bowler in 2019. Before signing for Sussex, he played for Essex and Hampshire.
However, he will not be playing for Sussex since he tested positive for COVID. Seven more Sussex players who came in contact with him have been put in isolation. The players include; Jamie Atkins, James Coles, Henry Crocombe, Tom Haines, Sean Hunt, and Delray Rawlins. Moreover, he was subjected to an indefinite suspension from all international cricket. The whole incident was brought about by offensive tweets that he posted as a teenager. The worst part is that the tweets spread all over while still debuting for England against New Zealand.
“He contributed well with the bat, his performance with the ball has been excellent, he showed high levels of skill, and he’s got a game that can be successful in test cricket. In regards to the staff that happened off the field, it’s not acceptable within our game. He fronted up to it, showed a lot of remorse, and you can see it’s very genuine from how he’s been around the group. I think it’s a great lesson for everyone within our game that we can all do more. We all have to keep looking to educate ourselves, trying to be as inclusive as we can, and keep making everyone feel comfortable to play wonderful sports we have,” Joe Root told ESPNcricinfo.
Due to his actions, Robinson is facing all sorts of opinions from the media and the public. On top of that, he might face further disciplinary action from the ECB. Despite that, Ollie has a lot to learn by understanding equality, inclusion, and diversity, as cricket is a game for everybody.
Recently, the team introduced Rashid Khan to play two Blast group video games this season. Khan was to play the whole season on the membership, but withdrew to play within the rescheduled PSL for Lahore Qalandars.
He will arrive in the United Kingdom on Thursday from the UAE. However, he must spend ten days in quarantine as per the rules from the UK’s authorities. So to catch the latest news about Ollie Robinson and Sussex, stay tuned.
