The CONMEBOL (The South American Football Confederation) announced on Monday that the 2021
Copa America will be played in Brazil after being moved from Argentina and Colombia. The decision
was taken due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in the country and the social unrest going on.
The 47th edition of the competition was supposed to be organised across two nations for the time
since 1983 but a coronavirus spike in Argentina along with the unrest in Colombia on top of the spike
in coronavirus cases forced CONMEBOL to change it to Brazil
Brazil has been chosen as the possible destination because of the country’s experience in hosting big
tournaments. Brazil also hosted the tournament in 2019.
