Copa America 2021: 5 Biggest stars who have been dropped from the tournament

Copa America 2021 is set to be played in Brazil and it will see the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani among others to win the prestigious trophy.

The tournament was shifted to Brazil from Argentina and Colombia because of rising coronavirus cases in the countries as well as political unrest in Colombia.

The 47th edition of the tournament will be played from June 14 to July 11 across four cities in Brazil. However, the 47th edition of the tournament will miss some of the biggest names in South American football because of various reasons.

Here are the best players who have been left out from their respective national squads:

James Rodríguez

James Rodríguez was left out of the squad because of a controversy, according to Colombia’s coach Reinaldo Rueda. The playmaker is also not fully fit and couldn’t take part in some of the team’s training sessions despite Rodriguez claiming that he is completely fit.

Paulo Dybala

Paulo Dybala’s exclusion from the squad made headlines but the Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni made it clear he isn’t a part of his plans. Dybala’s season with Juventus didn’t help his cause as injuries and limited minutes on the pitch made sure he only started 14 league games and six more substitute appearances in the league, scoring four goals and three assists.

Fernandinho

Fernandinho was left out of the Brazil squad despite being one of the best destroyers in the game even at the age of 36. The Brazilian midfielder was sparingly used by Pep Guardiola in their Premier League campaign and that could be one of the reasons behind the snub.

Mauro Icardi

Following his permanent switch to Paris Saint-Germain, Mauro Icardi has been quite underwhelming, to say the least. The Argentina striker has scored just seven league goals in 20 appearances for the Paris club, which lost the League 1 title to Lille this season as well.

Arthur Melo

Arthur Melo’s move to Juventus hasn’t quite gone to plan as he would have hoped. Since being swapped with Miralem Pjanic who went to Barcelona, Arthur has only managed to start just 13 league games for Juventus this season and accumulated less than 1200 minutes of Serie A action.

We are going to keep you updated on the careers of these players. Stay attuned!
