Spinner Nivethan Radhakrishnan Is Signed By Tasmania

The Ambidextrous Player Is Ready for Australian Domestic Season

Tasmania has announced two new additions to their squad for the 2021-22 Australian domestic season. One of the names that seem to have caught everyone’s eye is Nivethan Radhakrishnan.

The all-rounder is the only known male ambidextrous cricketer in the system. Tasmania bowls both off spin, using his dominant right arm and left-arm spin. The youngster also possesses great batting capabilities, a plus for the Tasmania squad. Nivethan Radhakrishnan joins the Tasmania team on a rookie contract.

He was born in India and moved to Sydney, Australia, when he was 10. However, this is not his first rodeo in professional cricket. He has been part of the South Wales system for a while and has even played in the Australian Under 16s team, where he made heads turn. Additionally, he opened for Sydney University in the New South Wales (NSW) Premier Cricket semi-final last year.

The teenager says he began to bowl left-arm spin when he was barely seven. He told cricket.com in an interview that there wasn’t anyone in world cricket doing what he was doing at that stage. He said, “I am not like other kids, I am not like other people. I am not like other cricketers. I’m not better – I’m not worse – but I’m different. ”
Nivethan Radhakrishnan hopes to play for Australia at the highest level one day.

There are very few ambidextrous crickets on the world stage. Jemma Barsby, an Australian all-rounder, is one of them. She plays for Perth Scorchers and Queensland Fire and can use both hands to bowl. This incredible feat has been displayed by Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis, who switched from left to right during a game on the international stage.

Joining Nivethan Radhakrishnan on the rookie deal is Brad Hope, a 21-year-old seam-bowling all-rounder. Hope won the Olly Cooley Medal as Western Australia’s leading Premier Cricket performer last season. He amassed 41 wickets at an average of 15 with 913 runs at 54.

According to reports by ESPNcricinfo, Jeff Vaughan, the head of Tasmania’s male program, said that Brad and Nivvi are both exciting young cricketers, and they are thrilled about their addition to the team as they progress their careers there.

The Tasmania squad will have top cricketers, including Tim Paine, Jackson Bird, and Riley Meredith.

Here is the Tasmania men’s contract list:

  • In: Brad Hope, Nivethan Radhakrishnan
