In what most have termed a clinical performance, Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) demonstrated their fine batsmanship and defeated Ruby Trichy Warriors in the 5th match of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2021 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. LKK breezed through the chase as the Trichy Warriors didn’t put up much of a fight.
With a target of 172, Ganga Sridhar Raju kicked things off with a 58/1 score in the powerplay and continued all through the second inning with a 50, accelerating the score even more. Sai Sudharshan played his second fiddle role perfectly, claiming another 50 for LKK. With Shah Rhuk Khan perfectly positioned, Trichy Warriors did not stand a chance as the LKK achieved their target easily with 8 wickets to spare. Raju delivered 74 off 52 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes, while Sundharsam gave out 57 runs off just 53 balls.
The day started with Trichy Warriors ahead of the game with a cool 171, but when both left-arm spinners dropped their catches, things started looking bad. There was a ray of light in the 16th over when Ganga was taken out by Sunil Sam’s bowling combined with Akash Sumra’s catch, but it was too late to recover. Mathivannan also gave an impressive delivery with his left-arm spin but unfortunately, it wasn’t received well on the other end as his teammates made easy drops.
This win takes the young Lyca Kovai Kings to the top with 3 points in 2 games while Ruby Trichy Warriors stand second with one win under their belt. The battles are expected to get even more heated in the coming days as both teams try to recover. Trichy Warriors will need to pull up their socks big time if they want to stay in the league much longer.
