Australia Set To Tour Bangladesh For 5 T20I Matches In August 2021

The Australia cricket team has confirmed they are going to attend the T201 matches in August. Although they were supposed to play three T20I games before, Cricket Australia seems to have increased the matches to five. Since last year, Australia was supposed to tour Bangladesh for two Tests, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed; the same happened with the South Africa tour.

Akram Khan, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, advanced the improvement.

“As you may have known, Australia has agreed to increase their T20I series from three to five matches. It will be held over eight or nine days. So, we are trying to be well prepared for the World Cup T20,” Akram Khan told ESPNCricinfo.

Additionally, Bangladesh removed one test match of their tour to Zimbabwe as they kept the T20I World Cup, which will happen later.

“There were also two Tests against Zimbabwe, so we reduced it and added a T20I in its place. I am, however, not aware about how long the quarantine (in Zimbabwe) is going to be, but it won’t be too tough,” he said.

Akram mentioned that Bangladesh would avoid playing any cricket because of the Asia Cup, which has been postponed. However, they will continue to prepare for the Dhaka Premier League, which will begin on May 31.

“We have a pretty packed schedule. We will have club cricket after this (Sri Lanka) series. We will go to Zimbabwe, and afterward, we have Australia and New Zealand coming up. We also have to keep the cricketers’ bio-bubble and quarantine in mind. It is not always good to play a lot of cricket, so we have to think about our schedule after this series,” he told ESPNCricinfo.

Before Australia set to tour Bangladesh for 5 T20I matches in August 2021, they will first head to the West Indies in July. Then, they will take on two-time T20 World Cup champions, West Indies, in five T20s and three ODIs.

With Aaron Finch on their side to play during their tour in Bangladesh, they have a significant boost for that series. Also, the 5 T20I will give the Aussies the needed warm-ups and preparations required ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup. This match will be the first one since the two-Test series in 2017. Their only last game in the country was in the 2014 T20 World Cup, where the only win was four group matches against the host nation.
