Meet the Big-Hitters of the T20 Internationals in the Final Over

Cricket is among the most beloved games that are played globally. T20 is an international cricket form that has over time considered the six hitters like no other. In the past few years, there has been a lot of innovation in T20. And the game has drifted a lot towards batters. With this move, the six scorers in the 20th over have come to be increasingly welcomed.

The final or the 20th over is the most crucial as the pressure is felt equally by the batsmen and the bowler. Some players have effectively maneuvered their way through the pressure. Those who have done it and smashed it in the final overs have carved a special place for themselves in the team. Here’s a list of the top five players with the most sixes in the final overs in T20 internationals.

Rank Name  Number of sixes
5 Angelo Mathews About 11
5 Darren Sammy About 11
3 M S Dhoni About 12
2 Elton Chigumbura About 12
1 David Miller  About 17
  • David Miller

This South African middle-order batsman is aggressive in the T20 game, so much so that he can take the game away from the opposition pretty quickly. No wonder he has been nicknamed ‘Killer Miller’. The 32-year-old has a strike rate of 139.75 in T20 internationals and is known for his long sixes, especially in the final overs. No wonder he is a vital player in the line-up, and his electric fielding, too, makes him a great asset for the side he plays.

  • Elton Chigumbura

This former Zimbabwean cricketer has been the most underrated all-rounder in the game and has proved to be a gift for the Zimbabwe team. Chigumbura scored 893 in 57 T20 internationals for Zimbabwe and holds an overall strike rate of 140. Elton Chigumbura made his debut for Mashonaland in Logan Cup, aged only 15 in 2002, and has since established himself as Zimbabwe’s premier all-rounder.

  • M S Dhoni

The “Helicopter shot” pioneer is known to finish off the game of cricket in style. M S Dhoni has played 98 T20 Internationals scoring 1617 runs in total and has a strike rate of 126.13. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India has won the top prize in all formats.

  • Darren Sammy

The former West Indies captain has played 68 T20 Internationals for West Indies, scoring 587 runs at a stunning strike rate of 147.49. Sammy is the first person from the island of St. Lucia to play international cricket. He is a two-time T20 World Cup-winning captain.

  • Angelo Mathews

The former Sri Lankan captain is fifth on the list of players who have struck most sixes in the T20 Internationals in the 20th over. This all-rounder is yet another better finisher of the game and is deadly in the final overs. Mathews has played 78 T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka with a score of 1148 runs. He also played for Sri Lanka Under 19s and was captain of the team in the 2006 Under 19 World Cup.

In a format like T20, every team lines up their players who can easily hit sixes in their batting line-up. The same rule applies in international cricket as well, as this is the highest scoring shot in the game. This skill comes in handy most in death overs when it is required to score runs at a quick pace. The five players listed above have hit the most sixes in the death overs in T20Is.
