The Aussies and Afghans will not be locking horns anymore after ACB [Afghanistan Cricket Board], and CA [Cricket Australia] decided to call off their OD series. Both the sides were supposed to play three ODIs against each other, and it would’ve taken place in India. The country was also scheduled to host the T20 World Cup, but the mega event was shifted to Oman and UAE due to the COVID-19 concerns. The IPL 2021 second phase will also take place in the United Arab Emirates.
The One Day Internationals between Afghanistan and Australia would’ve been a massive series. Both teams have some of the best players and would have helped them show off their performance. But the ODI dates were also clashing with IPL 2021 Schedule dates. The cancellation of this series has provided a free window to all the Australian and Afghanistan players participating in the league. They can now wholly focus on the IPL games and perform well for their respective teams in the tournament.
According to the sports news, Afghanistan is already scheduled to tour Australia for a one-off Test match. This particular tour is a historic one as it will be Afghanistan’s first-ever tour and the first time both the teams will meet each other in a test match in Hobart on 26th November 2021. The test was scheduled for 2020, but it was later called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the ODI series between Australia and Afghanistan being called-off, both the teams can have peace of mind and concentrate on the upcoming IPL games. Apart from that, the teams will surely face each other in the T20 World Cup that will take place this year itself.
